How do Mood Rings work?

Mood rings contain liquid crystals that change colors at different temperatures. Your moods affect your body temperature.

For example, a person's normal body temperature is 98.6°F (37°C). When stressed or cold, blood is directed to the internal organs and away from the skin. This causes the mood ring to turn a darker color.

When happy or passionate, body temperature increases and causes the ring to change to a brighter, warmer color. 

The mood ring can also change colors for reasons unrelated to mood, such as such as during exercise or while having a hot bath.

General interpretations of Mood Ring Colors 

Burgundy, Pink – Happy, romantic
Blue – Calm, relaxed
Green – Normal
Yellow, Amber – Tense, Excited
Brown, Gray – Nervous, Anxious
Black – Cold
